One dress, Four Ways

Happy New Year!!! So this is my second blog post and my first in 2019...whoop whoop!!! Anyways, no fluffy intros, let's just get right into it...

If you’re like me and you wear dresses you love until the threads start busting out of the seams, then this blog post is especially for you! I’m very into getting the most out of my purchases and re-styling my favorite pieces to create unique styles. I term it "sustainable styling". 😜 A few years ago, I bought this pompom detail balloon-sleeved polka-dot midi dress (that was a mouthful) from @shop_fss, a Nigerian-based fashion brand. I've been able to style this dress in so many different ways that I've lost count of the number of times I've worn it. 


For my first look, I went the traditional route. Essentially wearing the dress as it came, and accessorizing with a contrasting black & white polka-dot headwrap, black & gold pom-pom drop earrings, and chartreuse high-heeled sandals.

For my second look, I created a multi-print front-slit dress using a print skirt from @kaelakayonline, a Toronto-based African fashion brand. The front-slit on the skirt gave this look a nice contrast and played perfectly into the dress illusion I was going for. I accessorized with gold statement earrings, an orange statement neckpiece, an orange headwrap, a black/off-white striped bag, and jacquard print block-heeled sandals. For my third look, I wore a yellow fringed-hem midi skirt in aso-oke fabric from @shop_fss over my dress. I paired this combo with the same contrast polka-dot headwrap I wore in the first look, added a waist belt to snatch the heck out of my post-baby waist and wore the same chartreuse high-heeled sandals.

For my final look, I wore my favorite dress as a skirt. To create this look, I covered up the top half of my dress with an Ankara print peplum blouse from a thrift store (lucky find!), tied an orange headwrap, wore white high-heeled sandals and carried a mustard yellow bag from De Lovet, a Toronto-based African handbag brand.
